FEAST OF THE DAY

Today is the anniversary of the first apparition of three of Our Lady at Fatima. Between May 13 and October 13, 1917 Mary appeared to Francisco and Jacinta Martos, and Lucy dos Santos six times in a field at Fatima, a city north of Lisbon, Portugal. During these apparitions Mary revealed several secrets to the children; 
recommended frequent recitation for the Rosary; urged works of mortification for the conversion of sinners; called for devotion to herself under the title of her Immaculate Heart; asked that the people of Russia be consecrated to her under this title; and encouraged the Faithful to make a communion of reparation on the first Saturday of 
each month.

These apparitions were declared worthy of belief in October 1930 after a lengthy investigation of their authenticity. In response to the requests of Our Lady Pope Pius XII consecrated the world to Mary under the title of her Immaculate Heart, and ten years later, in the first apostolic letter addressed to the peoples of Russia, he 
consecrated them in a special way to Mary.

Please pray, through the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima, for all mothers.
